Rep. Gallagher Discusses Veteran-to Veteran Programs and Drug Price Transparency on Matt and Earl Show

Interview

Date: July 26, 2019

This week Congressman Mike Gallagher joined the Matt and Earl Show on WTAQ to discuss the importance of veteran-to-veteran programs and drug price transparency. You can listen to the full interview here, or read some highlights below:

"So we established something called Bravo Company. It's part of what we're hoping to build into the Northeast Wisconsin Veterans Battalion that basically allows veterans that are in the area to adopt veterans that are coming off active duty in a mentor-mentee relationship and help them bridge that gap. We're hoping to set an example in Northeast Wisconsin for the rest of the country. This model of veterans stepping up to help other veterans, I believe, is the most powerful, and it's a recognition that your duty doesn't end just because you take off the uniform or just because you come off active duty."

"It's the recognition that prescription drug prices are placing an incredible burden on families in Northeast Wisconsin and across the country. Nationally, for example, it's been reported that nearly 1 in 4 Americans have a hard time affording the cost of prescription drugs. To make matters worse, studies show that prices are only going up. Cost increases, in my opinion, are unsustainable, and it's been clear to me that complexity of prescription drug pricing is a large factor in this problem. I believe that the only people who benefit from our extremely complex system are the drug manufacturers, wholesalers, and the insurance companies, which is why in Congress I've been working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to bring transparency into this process."
